With all the fall colors right now, my garden seems out of sync. The trees and shrubs around my house are the shades of fall. Reds, russet, a little orange, and different shades of brown.....but still, here is this garden just bloomin' away.
I don't bring this color into my home. There are no pinks in the house. I seldom wear the color of pink, but here it is in my garden. I don't use pink in my artwork. I'm not even crazy about cotton candy. When I go to a nursery...I invariably head for the pinks. Am I in a pink rut in my garden?
I guess I'll just let my love of pink take over my garden. It's the color I associate with joy. This month was breast cancer awareness month. In honor of that I found this poem that I would like to share. It was written by Anne Silver
Persephone's Bloom
I buy myself pink tulips
to celebrate my long winter being over,
wear a pink ribbon on my lapel-
a stripe crossed, like my friends' fingers.
Pink is about luck, the softening of red
with a taste of white. Not aspirin white,
but white of vanilla, hand-milled oatmeal soap,
the white surrounding a yolk.
My young niece used to say,
"Auntie, there's something refreshing about pink,"
having discovered that pink is a sanctuary,
a clearing in the woods where flowers break hard ground.
Lovely uncut bouquets connected to each other at the root.
wear a pink ribbon on my lapel-
a stripe crossed, like my friends' fingers.

with a taste of white. Not aspirin white,
but white of vanilla, hand-milled oatmeal soap,

If you haven't already done this...please get your mammogram.

I've never been one for pink, Balisha. The last mammogram I had..several years ago, they hurt me terribly. I've never been back.
There is a lot of pink here, too. Most of it was already here when we moved in. I love it. Your flowers are still so pretty. Seems to me blossoms are always brightest and prettiest in the cooler weather just before winter's freezes come down on them. I love the time between smothering heat and freezing cold.
Your garden still looks good. Mine has been through a drought and things are rather dry at this time. My encore azaleas are blooming but that's about it. I have a red/orange called Autumn Blaze and a PINK ones that I have not a clue what they are as I bought them on sale last fall. I love blue flowers in the garden. Hooked totally!
Your pink garden is very pretty. I love pink. It's in my living room (though I am wanting to change now) and I love to wear pink.
It's amazing how many blooms you still have and it's almost November!
I don't think I would find a single bloom and look at all yours! You've done an excellent job, extending the season!
I love pink in the garden. It compliments the purples and yellows so nicely!
Hi everybody,
My garden blooming time is extended because of the asters and the mums. I just let them grow and grow. They take up space that other plants could share during the summer, but in the fall they are so showy. I tend to like that burst of bloom just at the end of the season, so I remember it through the winter. Last year the mums were blooming while still covered with snow.I never cut them totally. I think that leaving them (sometimes full of leaves)...protects them during the cold months.
