My favorite thing this week isn't a thing...it's a little girl. Let me introduce you to Audra, our next door neighbor. She was just a tot when they moved in and we became fast friends. She is always just a smile away. She comes to help me garden. Usually wearing something pink. I think it's her favorite color....doesn't she blend in with my flowers? She used to always have a little dress on "in the old days."
My little companion on the front porch. She comes skipping over and wonders what we will do today. If I'm just resting...she loves a game of dominoes. Sometimes she brings a friend or two to join us in a doll party or a beauty shop party...where they get their hair fixed up.
She said that her Daddy went to a sale at a mansion and brought her all this jewelry. She was sure that she had so much jewelry...she wouldn't have to buy any for a long time. She even shared with me...a pair of hummingbird earrings that she was sure would be my style.
A helper in the kitchen....she has helped make Pizzelles one time...putting just the right amount of powdered sugar in top. We made hundreds of cookies for the Grotto ceremony at our Church.
Now here's a picture from just last summer. She wanted to help me plant something, but I had already planted what I wanted ...cutting down from the years before. I had noticed that there were geraniums on sale at our local store. I asked her if she would like to go flower shopping. She jumped at the chance and hopped in my car. Off we went to pick out some plants. She picked out a little less than a dozen red geraniums and we brought them home along with some other supplies. A treat for her and one for me too :) We got right to work and she became my knees and back.....hauling the lawn cart to the back and a big pot as well. She set to work filling the pot and planting her purchases. These late in the year flowers were so successful....the first time geraniums have thrived in my yard. As I said yesterday...little care, and no beetles assured us of beautiful flowers right up till frost.
Audra isn't around as much as she was years ago. She has activities...dance, soccer, friends with birthday parties, bike riding etc. I understand all of this, but Joe doesn't He wonders why she doesn't come over as much. I tell him that she's busy with her very active life. She came one day and said, "I just thought that maybe you were missing me." so cute. She does come once in a while now....like the other afternoon when we heard the doorbell....There she stood with a present in her hand. She came in and I opened the gift...It was an outfit for my Goosey Loosey who stands guard on our front porch. The little card meant more to me than the gift....she said in her youthful writing...."Thanks for everything you do! Love Audra."
