A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The Potty

Here is a piece of furniture that has been a conversation piece ever since it came into my house. It looks like a small table...and I have used it for that most of the time. People often say..."What a cute little table." Then I show them what it really is. I lift the lid and it becomes a potty.

When we first got it...I filled the basin with a big pot of geraniums. I put my amaryllis in there just to show you sort of how it looked.

I've been doing a little "toilet" research online this morning. There is such a history...from just dumping the contents of a chamber pot out on the street...to the modern conveniences that we have today. So glad that we have these modern bathrooms today....Wouldn't it be awful to have to get up during the night and run out to the outhouse in this frigid weather? No wonder they had these potties in the house and chamber pots under the bed.

Today is bright and cold.... We've really been lucky this year with many sunny days. It makes the extreme cold easier to bear. You almost forget how cold it is outside...till you run out for the mail or to feed the birds.

My little plants in my garden window were dropping some leaves that were yellow the other day. I found that being so close to the window, though a sunny southern exposure, was to cold for them. So, I moved the silks close to the window and brought the live closer to the heated room. They are thriving now....some new leaves on a few of them. The primroses went limp two days ago....I found that they needed water. They sure dry out fast. A quick soak in warm water revived them.

I'm finishing my yogurt here at the computer this morning. Just had a bran muffin and a cutie in the breakfast room.   We are having pulled pork sandwiches today...along with chips, veggies, and Bush's beans.I guess that I had better get going...I'm in the mood to do something creative today, but first my cup of tea.
Have a nice morning,
Balisha

What a cute potty chair! I've never seen one without a back and I can see why you snapped it up and brought it home. I love conservation pieces like that.

When I was young and lived in Maine, a friend of my mother's had a treasured antique piece passed down in her family. It was a beautiful piece and had intricate carvings. I was intrigued as a kid to know that it was really a potty chair! It had arms and a beautiful back. Must have been an upscale potty!

In my research this morning...I was astounded at the number of different potty chairs. They go from a board on a box to the most elaborate.
For me...I'll take the most modern convenience for my bathroom...and put one of these wooden ones in the house for decoration.

I used a little chamber pot when I was about 14 and visited my friend's grandmother's farm in Southern Illinois. Very creepy in an outer room ans I saw a huge spider scurry across the floor...and I mean huge.

I found a chamber pot at an antique store a few years ago. I keep it ( seriously) in our little guest house at the lake...it is scary to make that run to the main house in the middle of the night...racoons, coyotes, imaginary ghosts...lol!!!!

Jane

Can't imagine today but as a child we had to go to an outside lavatory at the bottom of the yard. No wonder we had chamber pots at night!
