A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

A "Me" Day

I've been up since early morning. I'm trying to get ahead of things so I can have some "me" time. Do you ever feel like you need "me" time? I used to take a day, occasionally, and call it my day. I could do whatever I wanted and eat what I wanted. It usually started with me staying in my pajamas after the kids left for school and husband was off to work, and fixing myself an egg in the hole for breakfast...along with a spoonful of orange marmalade and maybe a cup of tea.

After eating breakfast, I would get dressed and take a little trip to a greenhouse to see what was blooming. I had several greenhouses that I visited....Oakhill Gardens in Dundee, Il, Flowerwood in Crystal Lake, Il, The Genoa Greenhouse in Genoa, Il. Shady Hill Gardens in Elburn, Il. These were my favorite haunts. The last one specialized in geraniums. As you walked in the door, you would smell the fragrance of geraniums and looking ahead...it seemed like a sea of red and pink. One of my favorite plants for the garden, the geranium,.has  a scent like no other and a blossom that stands up over the very pretty leaves. I love the look of geraniums in a clay pot.

Moving on from my time at the greenhouse, I would start to get hungry. Where would I eat? There's a shopping area called The Little Traveler in Geneva, Il. where they have the most delicious lunches in the Atrium Cafe. I always had the Petite Luncheon...a cup of soup and an assortment of little tea sandwiches, with a cup of tea or iced tea in the summer.Dessert...of course...usually a piece of pie or a little sundae. I thought I'd put the little menu here for you to see. Quite an interesting story of the Little Traveler's beginning.

Leaving my place of choice for lunch...I would meander through a couple of antique shops, maybe stop at the wonderful Natural Gardens in St. Charles, Il. This garden is a place where everything is in the ground and you go around with a gardener and have them dig up the plants you want. They  have a wonderful assortment of wild flowers and so many others. I could spend a whole day there.

It would be getting time for school to let out so I would head home. This kind of a day could really refresh me.Sometimes I would only spend what it cost for lunch.  I think it made me a better wife and mom. Does it sound selfish...a "me" day? Well, kids have sleepovers and all kinds of activities and Dads have times that they can be alone...fishing, comes to mind. I think a little "me" day is just what the doctor orders sometimes.Do you ever have a day when you do exactly what you want to do? If you do....do you feel guilty?

I've always allowed myself "me" days and have never felt guilty. Go for it!

Oh, Flowerwood in Crystal Lake! How I loved that place when I lived in Cary. We used to order our prom and Homecoming boutoniers (sp) for our dates from them. About 45 years ago! They have been there for a long time. A day to oneself is special as well as necessary. I'm sure you are feeling the need for one about now! Spring is only about 62 days away now... if only we could count on Spring-like weather in 62 days!

I love having "me" days, and no, I don't feel guilty! I'm familiar with Flowerwood in Crystal Lake and also The Little Traveler store. I'll have to check out that garden shop you mentioned in St. Charles!

Your "me" day sounds wonderful. I firmly believe that we are better at other relationships when we have time to be in tune with our own thoughts and feelings. We always hear about physical energy, but we also have emotional energy and need time to recharge emotionally at times. Your lunch choice sounds perfect. I wish more restaurants did that. I always want a little of this and a little of that!
