"Where are my elves, Balisha?" I have heard that every Christmas for almost 11 years. Joe has two elves that he has had for years and years. He swears that he had more, and that I have lost them. Even his son says that he only had two.The last two years we have been storing them in a chest in the dining room...along with some other Christmas things of his....so they don't get lost.
One night a couple of weeks ago, I came into the computer room and he was on the phone. He was talking to a customer service rep at Vermont Country Store. Now, I didn't know that he knew anything about this store, much less wanting to order something. He went on and on with this person and then hung up the phone. I asked what the call was about...and he pointed to his computer screen. There they were....shelf elves, just like the ones that he treasures. He smiled like Santa himself. He had placed an order for a package of three. They came in the mail a few days ago...thought I'd post a picture of him with his little guys. He opened the package and left the room....then told me to hunt for them around the house. Now we have elves everywhere...I bought some bigger ones last year for my wreath on the front of the house .....eight altogether and he has five.
Today I am making turkey soup. Joe's son, Dan, brought me his turkey carcass and that's in a big pot with some broth and veggies. I'll let it cook for a couple of hours then strain it and add more veggies and maybe some chicken and noodles.
I have some errands to run and then Mass late this afternoon. So, a semi busy day.
Have a great weekend...

Balisha, I saved the turkey bones
and finally just threw away :(
With only one in the cottage and have 6 bags of turkey in freezer - that will be enough. But at the moment you make me think I should have saved the bones and made broth as planned.
One in the woods does not eat much :)
so funny he loves those elves. I have several but have bought them through the years at tag sales.
the soup sounds wonderful.

Turkey bones come in very handy. I doubt that I’ll cook a turkey for Christmas though. They are such huge birds for a small group of people.
Like you I am hoping that Christmas will be a quiet and peaceful time, a bit f music, some poetry and a friend or two. I don’t want more.
That is too cute.
Enjoy the elves!
This guy of yours is very, very cool!!!
Oh-oh, are you all joining the Elf on the Shelf craze?!!! Ha!
I think it's cute.
Soup sounds like a good idea! It's freezing here!
they must be making these again since these are like the ones from my childhood! :)
