Speaking of winter...looking out my window this morning..a layer of snow covering everything. Yesterday, the small tree was set up in the living room and the lights checked. Didn't decorate it though. So far, the little trees are ready for decorating, the wreaths are up over the lace valances in the living room, the railing is done...all that is needed are final little touches and the front porch. Less is best this year. I know that I will be putting it all away while Joe is recuperating, so this is what I can handle. At night, with all the lights and candles...it will be simply beautiful.
This morning I go for my hair appt. and then home to make pork chops and baked potatoes for dinner. I am keeping it a quiet day with not much on the agenda. I need to get out the sewing machine and tackle the little pile of things to do. Pillow cases to shorten, purse strap to shorten etc. Just a few things.
As I end this post, I found a poem to share by Mary Oliver. Mary has a deep love for nature and expresses it so well. I find that we share this love.
Enjoy your day...Balisha
First Snow
The snow began here
this morning and all day
continued, its white
rhetoric everywhere
calling us back to why, how,
whence such beauty and what
the meaning; such
an oracular fever! flowing
past windows, an energy it seemed
would never ebb, never settle
less than lovely! and only now,
deep into night,
it has finally ended.
The silence
is immense,
and the heavens still hold
a million candles, nowhere
the familiar things:
stars, the moon,
the darkness we expect
and nightly turn from. Trees
glitter like castles
of ribbons, the broad fields
smolder with light, a passing
creekbed lies
heaped with shining hills;
and though the questions
that have assailed us all day
remain — not a single
answer has been found –
walking out now
into the silence and the light
under the trees,
and through the fields,
feels like one.

The hedgehog is so cute...I think I saw them or that place featured over at Cozy Little House and wished I knew how to knit.
I DID make chili and biscuits after seeing yours the other day ! :)
Love the poem
You are busy
Very little for Christmas
this year in my cottage
but it will still look
beautiful
60 years of decorating
and have done it all
Time to be very simple...
The hedgehog is so cute! You are so clever!
The poem is wonderful too!
That's a really sweet knitting project! I can see a whole family moving into my house!! Jx
He is the cutest little hedgehog. I love Etsy so much and find so much inspiration on their site. Also, I am able to find some wonderful vintage fabrics for my quilts.
I adore Mary Oliver's writing and that is the most perfect poem for today! Thank you so much.....
I LOVE that cutie hedgehog!!!! And we had our first dusting today!
Beautiful poem. I have cut down on Christmas the last couple of years. I used to really go to town on decorations and I loved it! But, I am finding I really enjoy just the tree and a few things out. Pretty but not overwhelming.
I adore Hedge Hogs--my grandson has one as a pet. This would be fun to knit, I think. I too have downsized with the Christmas decorations. They are only for my enjoyment as no family ever stops by to see. I like the lights to take away the early evening darkness.
I love the little hedgehog! I wish I could knit well enough to make one myself; so far, I've only knit a half dozen scarves:)
Mary Oliver has become one of my favorite poets; thank you for sharing this poem.
Beautiful poem ~ it's always a pleasure to read a new-to-me poem by Mary Oliver.
I saw my first snow yesterday as I drove into the mountains. It was the perfect complement to the colder temperatures.
Enjoy the knitting project:)
That hedgehog is so darling. Love the Mary Oliver poem...she's my favorite poet. :-)
