A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Suet and Kathy and Judy

It looks like I am going to have to make some more suet blocks this year. We were discussing the price of suet cakes and the good ones are very pricey this year. Not so, if you only use one every once in a while, but when the birds flock to them and they are gone in a day or two...you can see what I mean. For some reason, our birds love suet. The feeders are full of sparrows as well as the birds they are meant to attract. Poor woodpeckers...they take a back seat to the sparrows when it comes to suet. I made my own a couple of years ago...a suet that was advertised to bring lots of birds. A mixture of lard, peanut butter (Joe hated me putting peanut butter in suet) fruits, nuts, seeds, oatmeal etc. It was a crumbly mess and wouldn't hold together for me. It clogged the hanging feeder, when I crumbled it on top of the seed. I ended up giving it to my daughter to use in Wisconsin. We had an opossum visiting our feeders at that time...I think he missed the suet, because he left without saying good bye.So, I'm on the search for a simpler suet that can be shaped into balls or squares...any ideas?

Speaking of feeding the birds...I've been getting dirty looks from my bird friends, because I haven't filled the feeders in a couple of days. I've had a cold and just didn't feel llike doing it. So, this morning I am going to fill them and make my feathered friends happy.

I don't know if any of you are WGN  radio fans. We were a WGN family back a few years ago. The radio was the first thing that we turned on in the morning. It was set to WGN and it made our day.....with Uncle Bobby, Spike, and Kathy and Judy. Well, a couple of years ago, WGN made a drastic change. They thought that they could increase their listening audience by the changes they made. WGN was considered by some as a radio station for older folks....they wanted a younger crowd. The experiment failed and now they are hiring back some of the former personalities. Kathy and Judy are back on Sat. morning. I hope that they get more show time soon. This pair of ladies can carry on a conversation from world politics to panty hose.
They have a natural way of making you feel like they are your best friends and sitting at your table enjoying a cup of coffee. Here's to many interesting, funny, and educational mornings with Kathy and Judy. My personal favorite feature is their "Merry Medical Christmas"....where they read actual Christmas letters full of aches, pains, treatments, and other medical "news". Letters that we all have received at one time or another.....read by these two delightful ladies. I'm looking forward to Christmas.

My feeders have been empty for a few days also because it has been raining for a week. I do believe the birds were just lying in wait for me as it only took a couple of minutes for them to appear.

How fun that you feed your birdie friends. I, too, love feeding them.
Thanks so much for your good wishes on our new home. We are going to love it, once we get things in place and get all these boxes unpacked. I swear...they seem like rabbits...keep multiplying. :))

I have a bird feeder and feed the birdies simple bird seed...have never made suet. And sorry, don't listen to WGN! I'm not a talk radio fan.

Hi Balisha..We have ONE squirrel and his wife who have recently moved into the neighborhood this year and are busy stealing the birds food. I buy the bells that tie onto the garden hook and no matter how I configure it..he finds a way to get to it.
Today he couldn't figure it out so he got into the bird feeder. He was all curled around it..having the cozy time of his little life.
It's expensive keeping he and his wife fed..and the birds too.
Ah well..when and if the fruit tree's produce in the back yard..we will have another problems so I won't complain about this one.

So far no babies...and this time I guess that is a blessing.

I hope you and Joe are doing great..this has been a tough year for us, Balisha!
Love and hugs,
Mona

I tried making suet once too--what a mess! My feeders are going to be filled tomorrow too--I have been busy and forgot.

Well if these comments are an example of how many are feeding the birds...they will have no problems this winter. I'll let you know how the suet making goes. Hopefully I won't have a mess, Judy.
I thought that there would be more comments on Kathy and Judy. I listen to this station when I'm in my car and also when I am working on a project at a table. Joe's not quite a fan of talk radio...he'd rather listen to music. So, when I'm in his car...we listen to music, but in my car it's set to WGN.
Thanks for the comments...Balisha

My husband rigged a bird feeder on a pole with a plastic cone halfway up the pole so the squirrels can't get to the seeds. It's fun to watch them try:)

I listen to NPR in the car. I haven't thought about WGN for years, since we listened to it when I was growing up.
