A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

October Morning

Looking out my window this morning I see yellow. During the summer the scene out my window is all green. Green leaves on the trees and green, green lawn. Today with the sun shining...it's a different story...everything is bright. Back in the woods stands an ancient telephone pole. The only one in our neighborhood. It is all weathered and worn. There are pieces of wood attached to it to make a ladder, of sorts, for whomever climbed it years ago. When I first started clearing the woods, I fell in love with this tall telephone pole. I hoped that no one would take it down, for I had plans for it.

I planted some ivys that would climb it and turn red in the fall. Then I took the barbed wire fencing that I had pulled out of the brush and twisted it into a wreath. This hangs on one of the wooden "steps" Then I hung an old bird feeder above that. I waited for the vines to grow, but had so much trouble getting them established. Woods are full of vines...they run rampant on their own. I've pulled them out of places that I don't want them, but try as I could...I couldn't get them to grow where I wanted them. So, I just left it alone and forgot about it. Finally just last year a creeping vine crawled over to the pole and started growing up. I doesn't cover the pole yet but some day it will. It  reminds me of trying to teach kids to tie their shoe laces. You try and try to no avail, but when left alone they catch on and do it in their own time.

One little maple tree is all red except for this little yellow leaf. I saw it and thought of  my children who are all grown up now. When they were growing up I encouraged them to be their own person. I remember my Mom saying this to me, "Just because Susie jumps in the river...does that mean that you have to?"  My kids are as unique as that little yellow leaf on the red tree. . As they say....they have followed a different drummer. Not always following the crowd. Individuals both of them.
So, on this bright day in October, I will get some of the fall cleanup done I'll put a few peanuts in the bird feeder on the pole. I hope that I can find something unique in God's world. I'll take a picture of it and show it sometime...next fall.

I like your telephone pole :-)
I hang things on various tree branches and knobs on the trunk - it adds charm.

My Mother's saying was. "Just because everyone jumps off the bridge, it doesn't mean you have too." Actually, it is good to grow up independent kids, in my opinion. I love the old pole.

Waiting for more color here. I like your pole and your plan. The vines are really looking good on it.

Balisha,
How beautiful and fortunate you are to experience such pretty Autumn color! So inspiring, thank you for bringing me Fall!

The telephone pole stands right in the middle of the woods. I can see it from the house. That's why I wanted to plant some color there. I've been trying to plant things on the border, so we have pretty color in the fall. The trees behind are pretty nondescript...so I'm adding color where I can. Thanks for taking the time to stop, read and comment.

The telephone company is taking old poles down along our road. When I was a kid, my dad asked for one of the old poles and the phone company even buried it for us so we could have a basketball hoop in the driveway. I'd like one in my woods if I could decorate it the way you have ~
