A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Bunny Tails

A couple of years ago, I planted annual Bunny Tails in two terra cotta pots. I loved the fuzzy little flowers resembling bunny tails. They were a pretty accent for my garden of pinks and purples.

They were really easy to take care of and didn't require the amount of water that potted annuals usually need. As they grew, I moved the pots around to put where things had either stopped blooming or in bare spots in my garden.I was sad to see them go at the end of fall. They were a one hit wonder...that I forgot about until now.

I wanted to plant some perennials in the garden that I was just starting, by Tim's bird bath. I checked many plants out and found these that were perennials. They have red stems and turn burgundy in the fall. They stay small and short...just what I needed. I ordered three and have had to wait till now to get them...due to the  hot weather. They came this week and I planted them yesterday. The top and bottom pictures are from the internet..the middle one is mine from a couple of years ago.

I love grasses, but so many of them are huge or annuals. I think that these will fill my need for a border plant. Those along with lavender, rose bushes, and in the spring...daffodils should be a pretty combination.

I was just out and turned on the double sprinklers in the back. We had two trees removed and have planted grass seed where the trees stood. Whew, it is really hot out there. I sat on the bench in the shade and waited till the sprinklers were done. As I became quiet...birds started coming to the sprinklers. First robins...we haven't seen robins lately, but they are still here. They love a wet area to dig up worms for lunch. Yum! Then I heard Cedar Waxwings. They were being so elusive...just sounding their high trill...the didn't come for worms, but I could see them watching in the fruit trees. Chickadees and Nuthatches were on the feeder and also flitting back to the woods. We put corn in the feeder and corn cobs that we had eaten off of yesterday. The little birds love to peck at these yellow treats. Mr and Mrs Cardinal are getting their feathers back and visited several times this morning. They were back in the woods too, while I was sitting there. Finches on the Coneflowers and the distant sound of Jays.

I love this time of year...with the insects buzzing and birds gathering. We start thinking of gathering too....apples, pumpkins, root vegetables etc. Those who can, are busy in hot kitchens "putting up" beautiful jars...looking like jewels on basement shelves. Tomorrow I will do a post about my years of canning and when my shelves were full of treasures for winter.
Have a nice day....Balisha

I haven't seen many birds here lately. Maybe I'm not going out at the right time, or they're some place trying to stay cool! I love ornamental grasses. I planted quite a few last year, but they don't seem to like the weather here.

I wish I still canned like I used to, but it is silly--for one person, there is no need. I am going to look for bunny tails next spring!!! Love them!!

It's neat that you saw so many birds--and that you took the time to observe and enjoy them. I want to do that more often, not always be hurrying through everything.

I love the bunny tails! So pretty!

I too am enjoying the birds this year. I added a few more feeders and it's like a scene from Disney's Snow White when I walk to the shop and the birds, squirrels and chipmunks scatter.
