A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

A Misty Moisty Day

With all the misty weather...the only way to describe my gardens..is lush. Everything is so overgrown and plants are spilling into one another with no definition. Here is the clematis that I planted late in 2011. It is called Princess Diana (a smaller flowering clematis)I made the trellis out of two tomato cages and attached it to the post that holds the birdhouse.I will train it along the porch railing and it will be enjoyed from our seats on the porch. It's easily trained and I can cut it back at the end of the season.
The little garden by the driveway is packed full of flowering plants. The spring bulbs are finished and it's time for summer perenials to bloom. There isn't much blooming in this picture, but before long the roses will bloom and there will be more color in this spot.
Here is my volunteer clematis. She popped up in Mary's Garden and I put a small trellis over it and voila...she bloomed the first year.
Around to the north side of the house...the Ajuga is blooming along the border of this semi herb garden. It was a very dark day, when I took these pictures...so not so colorful. Gloomy days seem to have been here forever....but before long that old Mr. Sun will be out and casting his rays with a vengeance. My gardens love the misty, overcast days.
Here is another picture of my Ajuga. When I planted it, a friend came by and said that I would probably not like it after it started to creep. She said it grows like a weed...and she was forever pulling it out. Well, I didn't listen to her...I went ahead and dug more up in the woods and transplanted it here. Just a few plants at first. See how it has grown! It's really an easy plant...it grows well in all kinds of weather, fills in wherever it grows, makes a perfect border, looks nice even without blooms, and most of all easy to maintain...I just rip it out, when it starts to take over. I love the way it grows around rocks and pavers.
Well, that's a mini tour for this damp and dismal day here in N. Illinois. As I look out my window, the birds are coming to the feeder...cardinals, indigo buntings, orioles, finches, woodpeckers, and of course the faithful varieties of sparrows. They keep me entertained during moments when my mind starts to remember. I have so many things that keep me busy....feeding the birds and tending my gardens is therapy for me.
Thanks for visiting....please leave a comment...I really must start answering them.

I looked out the window one morning last week to see that all of a sudden everything was green. It finally looked like spring. I planted Ajuga and welcome its return each spring. I like the flowers and I like that it spreads, even in my clay soil. Your overflowing gardens are lovely.

Lovely pictures - my clematis has been poised to open for days but doesn't seem to have the energy to complete the job. Lazy thing! Jx

Your plants remind me of mine.
Everything surrounding this cottage is like a jungle and plants are huge.
Take care...

Oh your Ajuga looks so pretty flowering in your bed. How nice to get a surprise clematis in the garden and such a pretty one at that.

Everything is so pretty! I love ajuga..I guess it can be invasive sometimes but that just gives you something to do outside. :)

I have a purple Myrtle (vinca) that is taking over and it is quite all right with me. It started to drown out my Hosta's--so I moved THEM--let the Myrtle be free to grown where she wants :-) We will have rain all this week, then--maybe June will bring us sun. Garden work helps me to concentrate on what I am doing and not let my mind get filled up with sadness--well--not too often!!

Hi Balisha...your garden sure is lush and beautiful! How lucky to have a volunteer Clematis...wish I would get one! I think in the first picture there's a bird coming out of that house!
