Cooking With Lucinda

Growning up in a big Italian family on her father’s side, it was hard for Lucinda Scala Quinn not to be psyched about food. Her mother, Rose, always cooked simple, fresh food for our family. Lucinda’s love of cooking started at those family meals and blossomed into a career as a chef, cooking teacher, caterer, author and food writer. Scala Quinn is currently the Executive Director of Food and Entertaining at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, host of a weekly food radio show EatDrink and former co-host of Every Day Food. Scala Quinn has written three books, Lucinda’s Rustic Italian Kitchen, Lucinda’s Authentic Jamaican Kitchen and MAD Hungry: Feeding Men & Boys, out in 2010, that all feature the food I cook and love: recipes big on flavor and low on fuss. Scala Quinn will star in a new television show, MAD Hungry with Lucinda Scala Quinn, which explores Scala Quinn’s continuing journey as a mom on a mission to bring back the family meal and do it in an accessible, affordable and easy way. She admits that we all lead busy lives nowadays but our meals with our loved ones shouldn’t suffer.
This taken from her bio on the internet.

I have watched Lucinda for years. She's such a down to earth cook....telling about her family as she cooks her fabulous meals. Her "Mad Hungry" shows were my favorite. Once in a while one of her sons would join her in the kitchen....learning as they assisted their Mom. Always such courteous..loving boys.Lucinda's recipes were meant to bring the family to the table together.

This brings me to my second post for this morning. My daughter, who lives in DC, called me and told me that she had signed up for a cooking class with Lucinda. She knew that I was a big fan and wanted to share her news. She said that as soon as the tickets were being sold...she knew that she wanted to be part of the class. My girl is a vegetarian...it didn't matter that she was going to have to cook chicken...she wanted to be a student in Lucinda's class. I thought of her all night at the time the class would be going on...what were they doing, was she learning, was Lucinda as nice as she appears on TV, would one of her sons be there? She sent me this picture that night after the class. I was delighted to see that they had talked. LuAnn said that Lucinda and her son Calder were exactly like they are on TV. Very down to earth and lovely people. The chicken that they prepared was given to her cooking partner, but the rest...a fried rice and a watercress recipe were enjoyed by both students. I'm so glad that she got to cook with Lucinda...for her memories and for my sharing long distance.

Wonderful for your daughter.
I love cooking and in the past special cooking shows.
My special friend years ago was
Italian and loved to visit her home for the specialties that were not served in my Southern parents home.
One of the things this small town living lacks
is special food of this type.

What a wonderful experience for your daughter and you--via second hand information of how the class went. Neat.
