A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The Day Begins

My blackberry lily seed pods are plump and look pretty much like a cluster of blackberries. My lilies came from Mount Vernon...George Washington's home. I was visiting and there was a table as you left, with plants for sale. I bought this little wisp of a plant and carried it home on the plane....on my lap. I planted it and watched it grow. I love the little lily, but love the seeds more. When I moved, I brought a couple of starts with me. Now they grow in various spots around the yard and woods. I'm always surprised at the long leaves with such a tiny lily. When the flowers start to fade, they coil up in interesting ways. I have used these seed pods in bouquets and wreaths in the fall. I haven't found a critter that likes them...not even the J. Beetle.
Today is going to be, probably, the last day in the 90's....and then we are spiraling down to the 60's with rain tomorrow. It will be a welcome change. It's going to put me more in a fall mood. Maybe I'll put a few fall things around the house tomorrow.
This morning, when I woke up, I felt the muscles in my upper arms hurting a little bit. It was like when I was in high school and the morning after our modern dance exercises...do you remember how your muscles hurt? Maybe you were out for sports and did calisthenics for the first time. The only thing I used my muscles for yesterday was using the loppers to cut down some dead things in the garden. Wow, am I out of shape! I remember in high school...just working through the next day and not babying myself...and that's what I'll do today. The plants that I was attacking yesterday were the asters in front of the  house. They were brown and green...mostly brown. They really looked unsightly right in front of every thing. I pulled some terra cotta pots of begonias out and put them in their place. I cut down a few lilies and really neatened up the front garden. Now the roses can shine until the mums open up. Speaking of mums...the ones I ordered  for the new garden  aren't the color I ordered. I think that I will keep them...maybe I'll like this color better. The woods still calls me. I went back and used the battery operated weed whacker  and cut down some dead things a couple of days ago. It looks nicer and I found out that I can operate that weed whacker...but not the gas one yet.

When we heard the news that our diplomat in Libya and several others were killed this morning. It made me sick...To think that some irresponsible  person here... could put something on the internet...YouTube... that offended another's beliefs  is beyond my understanding. The internet is good in so many ways, but can be deadly as we found out this morning. When are we going to stop killing each other?

Well, I have to get on with my day. I hope that yours is happy.

I love the idea of having a cutting from Mt. Vernon :-)

I know what you mean about using loppers! The dead weight of just the tool is enough to get my attention. Holding them up and/or out is a challenge. You are such a busy little bee! I know your borders and beds are lovely as you keep your loving eye on them and nurture their best show. Flowers always seem the brightest and prettiest this time of year when cool weather comes around. Still hot here in Kentucky, but I'm looking forward to the cool days on the way. I'm enjoying pouring over (and over) the cookbook for slow cookers. I made the Chinese vegetables, and plan to make the blackberry blueberry cobbler to take to our neighborhood picnic this weekend. Some of the recipes I've used were found on the Internet. Fun trying new things and new ways. Stay well, and Joe, too.

Hi Vicki,
I wondered what souvenier I would bring home and when I saw these little plants, I bought one without knowing anything about them . I just felt that research showed what plants were there when Geo. Washington lived...and this little plant had history behind it.
I loved the gardens...my favorite part of my trip.

Oh, Barbie...I didn't realize that I was doing anything out of the ordinary yesterday. Just a simple pair of loppers.
So glad that you are enjoying your cooker. Those recipes sound delicious...do your grow blackberries?

No fruit grown here, I am sorry to say. I have to use bags of frozen berries I buy at the store. At our previous house when I was younger, I grew strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus, Concord grapes, and one fig bush that had to be protected from winter weather. Ahhh, those were the days!
