A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Roses From Seed?

I ordered these seeds a year or so ago. I planted them in a pot just this spring. I sprinkled the seeds on top of some potting soil in a clay pot. Then I took a pencil and pushed the tiny seeds into the damp soil. When I watered them...the seeds came up out of the soil and laid on top. So, I pushed them in again and put a coffee filter on the top. This helped in watering. I had a curious chipmunk, who got in and dug around the pot....checking for things to eat. Another coffee filter and then the pot was placed under a little plant stand in the sun. It seemed that it took forever for the seeds to germinate. Weeks.... Then one day I removed the filter to look around and there they were...two tiny green sprouts. I wondered...could these be tiny rose bushes in the making? Now, I took care and removed the filter and brought the pot up on the deck table...so I could watch it carefully. I was so worried that a curious bird or chipmunk would unearth these tiny seedlings,...but for weeks they never showed any interest in the pot.

So here we are today....two tiny rosebushes...ready for transplant. They were so close together when they sprouted...it was like they were hanging on to each other for dear life. If you could look carefully...there is a tiny bud on this plant. So eager to bloom is this variety.
Now I'm in a quandary.... Since the weather is so beastly hot....I brought them inside and I put them in individual pots. They are on my plant stand in the window right now. I feel like they would just wither and die in this heat, but the shock of them being in the house could be too much too. What should I do? I want them to establish a root system outside before winter. I have just the place for them...in the full sun... out of the way of the lawn mowing.....but that darn sun is too hot right now.
I have babied these little rose bushes for all of spring and now summer...I really want them to survive. I'm thinking that I will wait till the heat wave is over and then put them out in the ground. Woe to the person or critter (lawn mower man, chipmunk, Japanese beetle or bird) that kills these rose bushes. I am like a mother tiger looking after her babies when it comes to these little plants.

Wow, I am totally amazed that you grew roses from seed. What color will the flowers be? I hope they survive for you.

Keep cool,

I think that they will be shell pink...going from white to a soft rose on the same plant. I didn't do anything special and their future depends on if I can get them in the ground without a problem.
Would you tell us how you made a painting out of a photo. I was so interested in that...the picture was wonderful.

This is great, have never seen seeds for roses. I can't wait to see what type of bloom you get.

I got a miniature rose plant while I was in the hospital. I hope these thrive and we get to see their blooms!

That is a challenge. Even if you plant them out and shade them well in some way, I fear the heat would cook them while they are in their adjustment stage. Let us know what happens. We are headed for triple digits on the thermometer again today.(Saturday)
