A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Looking Ahead...a Perpetual Gardener

I was puttering outside on this off and on rainy day, when I thought about gardening keeping us vital and alive. We may get tired as can be, but after a rest...we're at it again until we fall into the chair, when we finish our work. I am looking ahead to spring I guess.... looking around and seeing what can be changed, with little work. Finding plants to bring in and winter over. Deciding if I want to force some bulbs. (they would be so welcome in the spring.) Wondering where to plant my new plants, so that they can be seen from the porch next year. My life, it seems, is always spent looking ahead. I'm what I call a perpetual gardener. Never ending...work, thoughts, research, and of course joy. I think that is what is the difference between someone who is old in their 70's, and one the same age...who doesn't know they are old...till they look in the mirror. We do have aches and pains, but I guess that I'm one of the lucky ones who can usually just work it out. If I have an ache in the morning and a plant to put in the ground, you can be assured that by the end of the day...it will be planted. Gardening was one of the first things on my mind last year, after brain surgery. I went out in the yard and puttered around doing just a few things soon after I came home. I didn't really feel like doing much in the house, but the outside was calling me. Once upon a time, after surgery, I asked my doctor, "When will I be able to mow the lawn?" He laughed and said that I was the first woman to ask him that.Always looking ahead to the next season is how I live. More on this later on...here is what I did today
I have been trying to decide what to put in two of my new pots. As I was looking out at the rain this morning, I spotted my Dipladenia plants and how vibrant and sturdy they are. I decided to pot them up in those pots and see what happens. If they grow, I might just leave them in these pretty pots and put them on the front porch. Here I am looking forward to spring and what I'll be doing in my yard. It's a perpetual thing with me. When the good Lord takes me, I hope he puts me in the garden.

I have the same Dipladenia and as I came in with the Tribune, I was struck by how vibrant the color is. I do so much want to try overwintering mine too.
Good for you to always be looking ahead, that's what keeps your attitude so positive, I'll bet!

With an attitude like that, Balisha, you are probably a very young 70+ yr. old!

The garden keeps me motivated too. Gets me out on days when the Fibromyalgia wants to keep me in. LOL! I have been moving plants and planing for next Spring. Thanks to you the Amaryllis are in the basement. Gardeners hope from season to season . LOL!
Have a wonderful week.

A true gardener is always looking to the next growing phase. I tell everybody my plants should come equipped with wheels because they get moved so much! I doubt that you look or act your age!

Dear Balisha, your excitement is infectious!!!

Your blog is always awakening my long dormant passion for gardening... :)

Someday, I too will have a new garden of my own...

Hi Sissy, Zoey, Margie, Lona, and Mark,

I keep looking ahead, because I think that people who live in the past have less joy in their lives.I pretty much have to keep moving and positive to get anything done around here. This morning, I found out that I can't do everything...that hosta that I was going to divide was just too much work for Joe and I. We just left it huge...the way it was.

Gardening seems to be one of those activities where one just loves it at times and finds it a chore at other times. To me it is a chore thinking about it but love it and do not want to stop when in the middle of it.

yours looks good.
