A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

A Project That I'm Working On

The invitation came in the mail. It was to be a birthday celebration for a friend of mine. She will be celebrating her 80th birthday. We are to bring our dancing shoes and a lawn chair....this party will probably be in her barn. I'm glad the weather is starting to break....although the party will go on hot or not. I kept looking at the cute invitation and wondered, "What can I do with this?" She's a very creative person and it shows in her beautiful home. I wanted to do something really special for this lady. She has been a customer of mine in the past...always asking me, "What new things are you working on?" We were in garden club together and she is responsible for taking me to places that I would never have seen had it not been for her curious nature. She loves taking the back roads and finding craftsmen and artists along the way.
I decided after pondering for quite a while, to do something that I have never done before. I got a book from Joe for Christmas about mixed media. Doing artwork by using pictures, trinkets, magazines, doilies, buttons and doo dads of all kinds...then placing them on a surface (in this project I used a small canvas) and adhering them in layers. I used my printer to print a part of the invitation and changed the color to a sepia tone...to make it look very old. You can add a little painting or not...I put a few touches on this particular project. Then the fun began. I tried to find things that would be suitable for my friend and started layering.

I think that I'm finished with this. I put some acrylic matte medium on this morning. This is the "glue" that I used. I changed things up a bit. After the first coat...I was running around the house looking for that little gold heart. I may still tweak it a bit and need to add more coats of the medium.

Projects like this come into my head early in the morning. Sometimes I have to run downstairs and do something creative, be it playing with my plants or starting a project like this. This is really fun....anyone could do it. This hot weather has kept so many of us in our houses...why not start collecting things for a collage like this?We are going to the party and join with everyone to celebrate my friend's birthday. Maybe I'll take pictures. It's on the 6th of August.

I have enjoyed catching up on your posts this morning. Your little wren, the birthday party, the kids checking up on you and this great project have all been fun to read and enjoy. I am not creative with anything I guess but maybe food. I am sure your friend is going to love it just as I love the placque I won from your page. I treasure it. We are so hoping for some rain today. It was 94% humidity this morning. I am getting cucumbers from the garden and have huge green tomatoes but none ripe yet. The okra is coming on and what I thought was a squash plant has several watermelons on it. lol. I made 2 quarts of pickles this week. I hope you enjoy the birthday party. Have a great week, too.

This is a little project that anyone can do. Now I have an idea for the old window that I posted about before. One thing leads to another...you just have to kick start your creativity. Hope you all have a nice Sunday. We've had rain and now it's muggy...guess we want perfection when it comes to weather.
