A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

A Morning Working in the Gardens

Here we are on a beautiful fall morning...taking care of our gardens at Church. Three of us got together to do the fall cleanup and plant 100 bulbs. We have two gardens...the Grotto (new this year) and our Mary's Garden. This year was a new year for the Grotto and some plants were successful and some were not. What we didn't know was that a rectory was on the site before the Grotto was built. It was filled in with a material and the foundation left. The garden has been wet all summer....so things that don't like moisture have failed and things that like moisture have flourished. Now we know what to plant. The rose bushes have been so successful and the sedum...not so much. The pictures below are of Joan. We got together because our bulb order arrived and we had to get them in the ground before it got too cold for us to work. We planted Red Riding Hood tulips in clusters at the Grotto. We took out the hostas...they didn't do well in the hot sun, and substituted tulips for those for the time being.
Mary's Garden was cleaned up and the perennials were cut down. White tulips and Angelique tulips were planted here. Kathy is a master gardener and so knowledgeable about growing and plants. She is a great person to have in this job. Joan is a master gardener in training. She is learning, but really knows her way around a garden. Then there is me...I know quite a bit, but I'm always learning. I love doing this kind of work and will till I can't anymore. Notice my green chair...it goes everywhere with me when I get my hands in the earth. The picture below is Kathy.

We finished in a few hours. Time went so fast...we work well together. We saved our visiting for lunch time. Kathy treated us to a sandwich at Three Sisters. A great morning...and I learned that Byron has a garden club. They are finished for this year, but will start up in the Spring. I have so many things to look forward to...a new club to join and seeing the many bulbs in bloom...that I have planted or helped to plant this fall.

Now that you know about the moisture, you will be ready for planting next year. The roses do look like they enjoy their new home.

I bet those tulips will be gorgeous next spring. I did not plant any this fall. My tulips only look good the first year and it's too expensive to treat them as annuals. I have planted hundreds of them and very few return. I know I will miss them when spring arrives. I will just have to come and enjoy yours!

Hi Zoey, Ernestine, and Racquel...

This garden is such a peaceful place to work. People coming in and out of the Church and those walking by...stop to visit and see what we are doing. We are a small group of ladies and one gentleman, who work well together. We love to make the Church grounds look pretty. From all the comments from our fellow parishioners...we are appreciated. Some of us have limitations and we work around those.Thankyou for your comments. Balisha
