Update on Balisha's Surgery for 9/2/09

Hello everybody,

I just returned home from the hospital.Balisha's surgery went well. Her neurosurgeon told us that he was successful in removing all of the tumor. The conclusion of the frozen section from the tumor done by the pathologist was that the tumor was benign. The definitive diagnoses by pathological study will take up to two days.

The surgery began at 11:23 AM and she was in the recovery room by about 3:15PM. The Surgeon felt that all went very well and he expects her to recover quickly. The Surgeon will have a CAT scan done in the morning to ensure that there is no bleeding or clots forming at the surgical site or any excessive swelling of the brain. He does not expect that to happen but is doing the Cat Scan as a precaution. He expects that Balisha will move from the ICU unit to a regular unit by Friday morning if all goes well.

On the way to the hospital I asked Balisha to do something for me and that was when she sees me for the first time after her surgery to say to me, "Hello Joey". Well guess what? The second she saw me on her way to the ICU from the recovery unit she looked at me and said, "Hello Joey." That was important for me because it demonstrated to me that her memory and speech were intact. It was my way of testing her mental faculties and neurological condition shortly after surgery. The other neuro checks (as we in the profession call them), were being monitored continuously by the nursing staff. I was extremely happy to hear those words.

That's about it for now. I'm going to grab a bite to eat and sit and relax for a little while now. I'll be back at the hospital early in the morning and will update all of you as soon a possible. The first 24 hours after the surgery are critical!

Keep the prayers coming for a good outcome for Balisha and a return to normal health.

Blessing to all,

Joe

Joe I don't know you or your wife, except through Judy (in KY) who spoke of her. So sorry about her tumor - or shall I say former tumor. I'm so glad she came through fine - sounds like she will have a lot more to tell us about her journey in this life.
Blessings, Doris

Thanks so much for letting us know how she is and that the surgery went well. I have thought about her all day and said prayers that it would be over quickly and she would know what was going on afterwards. I know you are glad it is over, too. Get some rest and take care of our friend. Tell her everyone is praying for her even people she does not know from blogland. Love and hugs to you both, Judy
