A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Sedum Autumn Joy...a Tough Plant

This morning I am sitting here...stapless and pondering my clipped wing situation. My Doctor removed the staples yesterday and it went off like a breeze. My oldest son said that Joe can play my Morgan Freeman and drive "Miss Balisha" around like a chauffeur. I guess that I'll have to deal with it. I don't like it, but the time will go fast. Now on to my favorite fall flower which is no care. I plop it in anywhere that I want some healthy plants.

Sedum...Autumn Joy

This plant is as dependable and adaptable as they come. Its flowers bloom from August into November; they open pink and mature to a copper befitting of autumn. It is 2 feet tall and wide, with succulent stems and leaves. 'Autumn Joy' looks great with ornamental grasses. Noteworthy characteristics: The long-blooming flowers change from deep pink to copper. Attracts butterflies. Care: Sedum prefers moderately fertile, moist soil in full sun, but can take it drier. 'Autumn Joy' can be tip pruned at 6 to 8 inches to shorten the plant, but this will also delay flowering.

This perennial is a standout plant in the late summer and fall garden, and one of the best of these sedums is known as ‘Autumn Joy.’ The plant bides its time all summer, quietly growing thick, light green leaves. Then, as the hot weather wanes, stonecrop comes on strong at the end of the growing season when buds open as pale pink and intensify to richly rosy flower heads. This perennial wants full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ will deal with just about any type of soil, and the plant is rabbit-resistant, too. I have this in many places in my yard. I leave it for winter interest as I like to see the snow sitting on top of the blooms. I have literally ignored my plants in the yard this year. They have received no special care and yet they are beautiful at this time of year. I have waited patiently for the beautiful color to come on this plant.

I have three plants coming from Burpee Seeds next week. They are Japanese Anemones in pink. We will plant them near my statue of Mary. My amaryllis bulbs are waiting in the wings. Ready to be sent in October. I'm glad that I ordered these...I will have something to watch while I'm home bound. Grrrrr!

SIX MONTHS !!!! That seems a bit much to me. I could see if they were in there rearranging your brain and stuff, but really! Well, imagine if you didn't have hubby around. yikes.

Hi Elenka...I thought the same thing. I can see if waiting till my meds are finished..but this seems excessive to me.

As you said, the time will pass quickly, Balisha. :) It is a pretty standard waiting period, I believe. My FIL had to wait the same amount of time after having bypass heart surgery. Your sedum is wonderful and it is so showy this time of year. (By the way, I just finished watching 84 Charing Cross Road after seeing it was one of your favourites in your profile -- it was wonderful!)

So glad you liked the movie, Nancy. It is still my favorite movie. I love the setting of WWII and the back and forth between the two stars.
I watched a PBS special on the 3000Mile Garden. It is the same back and forth between gardens this time. We found out what was happening in England and in the US in the gardens. I have the book, but can't find the DVD. I don't know if they made a DVD of it. Anyway....thanks for your comments and compliments on my sedum.

Yes a favorite of mine. About the only thing I have in the garden besides those million Black eyed Susan. :-) I have them around my pond. They grow so well with so little care and look so good.

I had a most miserable day. Crying from the time I got up. Only 1 week until my surgery.

Hugs

Got to love anemones for some late summer color.

Hi Balisha! Hope you are having a good day. I'm feeling much better today and maybe I will stay this way until the big day. I've notice a pattern with my cycle these past 4 month since things have gotten so bad.

I'm hoping this Saturday to be able to mow the yard for the last time this year. I don't want John to get out there and do because he makes a right mess of it. It's a wreck once he's done. :-) Maybe I can start on it tonight after I get off work.

Have a great rest of the week!

I am glad you posted about sedum. I think we may have some growing next to our house. Our plants look similar, but they are almost lavendar rather then pink. I like them because they attract so many butterflies.

I know that waiting to drive will be very hard for you. My daughter had brain surgery when she was very young, and it took awhile for us to know what all the effects were going to be. I know you have to especially cautious when you have just come off the dilantin too. You know what they say, better safe than sorry. (By the way, our daughter has done miraculously well since the surgery, and I bet you will too!). Blessings to you.

Hi Balisha,

I can sense your eagerness to explore and enjoy again much of the outdoors and the activities that you really loved. And it is frustrating to be just a bit limited... :)

But I think you should also allow yourself to be pampered by Joe and your kids... :)

I have seen flowers here similar to what you posted, I wonder though if they are of the same species. Yours are beautiful...

Be well my friend... :)

Six months IS a long time..but the past six months has flown by. I cannot believe we are already into Fall in just a few days. Howard is still in Maine and says the Fall colors are beginning to turn. Next year I will be well and able to enjoy it with him.

I, also would feel stiffled if I couldn't drive...but the doctor might be right. However...I don't see how they could hold him responsible if you DID drive.
Best to be safe though. I guess. (I would grumble also.)
My pre op visit is this Tuesday. I keep telling myself that if you can go through what you went through..I can certainly go through mine.
I am not familiar with those flowers...and I am wondering if we get them out here. They are beautiful. So far I have only invest in Mums. So many to choose from. I am already beginning to remove the annuals. I have a lot to learn about gardening...
All those years in the Military didn't give me much of a place to plant anything..so I am now learning.
You sound good. I am so pleased when you sound good.
