A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The Sparrow, the Wren and Me

The Wren and the Sparrow...by Balisha

The garden bench was calling me just the other day..

I dropped what I was doing.. turned to Joe in time to say..

"I think that I've been working in the garden long enough..

The work I didn't get to.. is going to be so hard and tough...

So I think I'll sit a while and watch my favorite birds..."

He turned and went inside the house saying no more words.

The bluebird houses all were standing in a row..

We look at them each time... when we go out to mow.

The bluebirds haven't visited for such a long, long time...

The Sparrows started building and we decided.. fine...

If they want to live with us, we'll let them have a chance..

But what is that a flitting and doing a funny dance?

A little bird of brown with a tail turned up so cute...

Was singing his pretty song and sounded like a lute.

It was our little Wren.. who had arrived in town today..

He loves to sing and build and make his nest so gay.

The Sparrow had started building his nest of messy things

Some twigs, a paper wrapper, and some tangled kind of string.

The Wren soon decided this was where he'd build his nest..

The birdhouse on the stick would be the very best..

He promptly went to work taking everything apart..

Then sat upon the house and sang out his little heart.

The Sparrow changed his mind and turned about to roam..

It wasn't worth the fight.. to call this nest his home.

I sat there on my bench... they were entertaining me

I thought how interesting these little birds can be.

It was time to eat my lunch ...my Hubby called me in..

The little Wren continued building, neater than a pin.

I'll come out again tomorrow, to check on this little bird..

His song tomorrow morning will be the first I've heard.

I hope for peaceful harmony in my quiet yard..

If everyone cooperates it shouldn't be so hard.

Now Mr. Wren and Mr. Sparrow I hope you'll get along..

And wake us in the morning with both your lovely songs.

It is nice to just sit and take things in sometimes... Birds just make me smile, I have two nests of newborns this week and they sound so sweet... have a great day!

Hi Lynn,
We've had two nests of babies this year too. They really messed up my wreath on the porch. After refurbishing it...I put it out and the birds were there already to make another nest. I took it down for a while, as we like to sit right under where the wreath hangs. Right now...I have a chubby, fat, baby robin sitting on my deck rail....so cute.

HI Elenka...I didn't take the wren picture...sorry to say. My camera just wouldn't do it justice.Maybe it's me and not the camera..you think? :)

I too love to watch the birds...me and Missy Kitty the cat. I call her Killer Kitty because she is a real bird hunter and I have to keep her in the house to protect the birds nowadays.

Hi Ohiomom,
As I told Elenka...I didn't take the pictures. They do look just like what I was watching though. I have so much trouble capturing birds...they move too quickly for me.

What a really lovely Springtime poem. I was right with you sitting on that bench...didn't you see me? :)
Thank you for visiting and your sweet comment! :)
Seems we are both into fixing and doing around the yard. Everything is fed and watered and trying to get established. How I wish I had the bird population out here that you have there. I would love that!!

It is amazing indeed to observe a bird build its nest... Reminds me of quivering birds in the rain that we always observed when we were small in a tree adjacent to our old house... The male bird doesn't stray far from the nest where the female is inside even if he is soaking wet... :)

Then one time, we heard some chirping in the kitchen. Our cat has taken hold of one of the birds... :( Sadly, we were not able to save the bird.

Thanks for the comments about my little poem.
Mark...My daughter has been emailing me pictures of a catbird nest being built in the rose bush by her window. It is daily entertainment for her cat. He loves to sit and watch those birds...his little whiskers twitching.
