A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Asters and Hummingbirds

We have had so much rain in the last two days. This morning my husband asked..."What is that big yellow ball in the sky?" It seems so nice to have the sun again. I had errands to do and then home to help mow the "field" The grass had grown so much. We struggled through it and now it looks pretty again. Before starting the mowing, I had about a half hour, while hubby was making adjustments on the lawnmowers....so I just sat by the huge aster plant. I watched to see what was going on in the natural world. There were lots of visitors to the plant. Bees, flies, butterflies, moths, and one ugly japanese beetle...(aren't they supposed to be gone?)

The hummingbird feeder is just behind this huge plant and the hummingbirdies were flying, buzzing, and dive bombing me. They are so active this time of the year. I read yesterday that the males leave first, then the females, and now we are left with the young. They don't seem to like the asters, but the new nectar is perfect. Early this morning I had done my birdie duties. Made new hummingbird nectar, emptied the thistle feeder and refilled. Later today I will fill all the other feeders. The natural world can sure keep a person busy this time of year.

I can totally entertain myself watching hummingbirds. They are just fascinating. The asters are so pretty in the picture. We are having beautiful weather here, too.

Oh your Asters are gorgeous! We had rain and high winds from Ike, power out to over half million people here and trees down everywhere. Now it is cool and sunny .. love the change of seasons :)

Hi Ohiomom,
Did you have any damage to your trees? That was some storm. We were glued to CNN the whole time. My daughter lived in Houston for years, so she was saddened by all the destruction. Let's hope this was the last for this year.

Your Asters are gorgeous Balisha. How lucky are you, I haven't had any more Hummers visiting my garden. Hmmm...

Hi,
Those asters are one big plant. It has been there for 6 yrs. It is bigger that a bushel basket. I wrote about my other asters earlier that were dying from the bottom up. I moved them to the back forty. They were a different variety. I wish I knew what variety they are.
