A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Yesterday the front porch was littered with lots of debris. I thought...here we go again. The purple finches are building a 2nd nest. They love to live behind our light fixture. Hubby is not too happy with them. They do make a mess, but I can clean it up. When we were sitting on the porch last night, the little mom and dad to be... flew back and forth building their home. There are lots of honey locust trees in our area. They pop up all over our yard. When we see them...we pull them out. This is the only plant material the finches are using this time. I told my hubby..."They are helping us...we don't have to bend over so much." They usually have a messy nest, but this one seems to be well made.
I was reading a blog this morning...Indyblogs...A nice green leaf:The big green leaf is coming. People are showing the often neglected color in the garden....green. So many colors this time of year...we sometimes forget how cool, calm and relaxing a walk in a green garden can be.
Well, I went out to take a picture of one of my huge hosta leaves, and flying past me, was the tiny finch. She almost told me, "Take a picture of my green nest." I decided right then and there....she made this little nest out of all the same plant material, had to search for it, helped clean up my yard....why not take the picture?

Hi there, a great green story :-D

I have never seen a nest built in a place like that or with fresh green foliage. Perhaps you could hang a half basket there next year and the mess would be inside and leave less mess on your porch.

However, I have to say I think the nest looks great the way the finches are making it now. Best wishes for the brood :-D

Hi Shirl,
I will have to read your " green post" a little later.
I have hanging baskets...one in the front yard near this light fixture. The finches have made nest in the basket too. They are so cute all nestled in their cozy home. Sometimes it spoils the flowers and upsets me, but not for long. It is great entertainment for our Springer Spaniel, Laddie, watching them fly to and from the yard. He just lies there and guards their home and his.
