A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Things in My Yard

I was up early this morning. I have been on antibiotics and can't be out in the sun, so decided to beat the sun and work early. I gave everything a drink and fed some of my plants. Deadheaded and just tidied up. Cleaned off the front porch...swept, and then hosed it down. I was picking up the hoses and found this beautiful moth near the river birch. Actually there were two identical, but the picture of two was fuzzy. I think that I got the wings wet and they were drying off.

The first birds I heard this morning were the robins with babies out in the yard. They were cheeping to each other. Mama with a worm and baby following. Then the mournful sound of the doves on the dog fence. They sound so sad. The wrens chimed in with their perky....come on world... song. I filled the oriole feeder and they were here with a baby. Baby was as big as Mom. They flutter their wings and beg for food. The finch feeder was visited by the little chipping sparrows. They are so quiet and diligent about their meal. As soon as the finches come....the sparrows are gone. I filled the tubular feeder and the cloth sack one. I didn't see hummingbirds then,,,,but later on I did. The finches were back to check out the new nest. I think it is finished. Hubby says the nest will not work. The green material will shrink and shrivel after it dries. We will see who knows best the bird or him. The ash tree in our front yard was full of cedar waxwings last night. They seemed to be eating some insects. They are always here when the mulberry trees are ready. I here their piercing whistle. My husband is hard of hearing and can't hear the birdsong. I would really miss this as it alerts me to look for the birds.
My husband got up later and at 9 am (very warm humid day) decided to trim the evergreens. I couldn't believe it. I had done all this work and was ready to sit. He proceeded to trim away and got trimmings all over the porch, that I had just cleaned. He was really tired at the end of his job, so I helped him clean up the mess. We could have waited till it was cooler. Men!

Hi Balisha,
Thanks for visiting "Crayons"! I'm so glad to know that someone shares my delight in the aroma of fresh crayons.

I enjoyed visiting your site today. Yay! Another Obama supporter. I admire your devotion to all things bird-ish. They are great friends and they need all the help they can get.

I had to laugh, 'Men!' They do have their own ideas about things. Maybe he was jealous of your early start and wanted to get a hand in there.

Thanks for the comments. The moths are gone. Maybe I'll find something new today in the insect world. Perennial Gardner....I love your pictures.
My husband and I both have sore backs today. Too much work can do that at our age. He was going to find someone to do our mowing etc. I said, "What are we going to do? Yardwork is about the only exercise we get." So...here we are. Another year into it and I hope that I can keep it up until the end.
