BJ at Sweet Nothings http://sweetnothingsbj.blogspot.com /always calls old things olden. So I guess I am qualified to call myself "olden"
This morning found me out in the garden early. I knew that it was going to be a scorcher from now on this week. I had a few things that I wanted to get done...specifically getting rid of some weeds. I use Roundup...don't care what anybody says about the problem with it...I will continue to use it sparingly. I'm "olden" and can't get down on my knees to weed. The problem isn't with getting down...it's getting up in a ladylike fashion. So saying that....I went around with Roundup and sprayed under the bird feeders.I watered my Mary's Garden because of the number of Hostas in the bright, hot, sun. I find if I water these every couple of days during the heat...they do well for me.Hostas love shade, but I love Hostas and wanted to use them in this garden. I pulled a few weeds by Tim's birdbath and then filled the bird feeders...seed ones and hummingbird. The hummingbird feeder was full of earwigs. I saw a couple of Japanese Beetles, but they aren't as bad as last year. My knockout roses are so pretty in their 2nd flush of blooms. I mentioned before that they sprayed our trees a couple of months ago and got the roses too. The leaves were all mottled with spots. They look perfect now...so I guess they weren't permanently damaged. As I finished up there were two more planters to water. They are on my deck. A stack and grow full of geraniums and my big cup and saucer with petunias on the deck table. (I'll show these tomorrow.) I went in the house to wash the hummingbird feeder.. and then, without my shoes, went out to hang it and water the plants. Aye yai yai ! I did a Mexican Hat Dance! That wood floor was so hot you could cook and egg on it. I might be "olden" but I've still got it...a high stepper on Nordic Wds.Dr.is signing off.

Oh cute. Wish I had see that dance on the hot deck. Did something similar yesterday as I was just going to step out and put something in the compost pile. Wow was the patio hot.
Hope you find some place cool to be.
Oh I have trouble getting down and up again, too - especially in the grocery store, if I get down to reach an item on a low shelf!
From one "olden" to another--I love Round Up for the same reason. I might have to bend over a bit to get it on the right spot, but...I no longer can get up either. I can't even use my "Scoot N' Do" which was little wagon thingie with a seat and wheels that rolled along the garden while I weeded. I can still get down on it and roll along, but I have no way to get up--even with the new hips. Going to be hot and humid around here this coming week, so I was out Saturday and did a bunch of weeding (with Round Up) and watered real good.
haahhhaaa....well, dear heart, you may be an olden high stepper but you are as cute as you can be....lol
Thanks for "talking" about me today...us olden ladies must stick together. I laughed when I could just see you trying to get up...I have to turn over, get on my knees, stick my bottom in the air and FINALLY get up again. hahhaaa....

Oh, Balisha...I can so identify with the "getting up" part, and that's because I am a bit overweight! ;). But I still believe that gardening is the best form of exercise!
I have many. many hostas and they are very forgiving. The ones in the shade are a deep green and the ones in the sun are pale green and often variegated. But always easy care plants.
Be careful in this heat (and there is more coming). I am pushing all of my plants into the shade of the patio, I hope that helps.
XO,
Jane
Same weather here :(
