The eagles are still manning the nest. We check each morning and throughout the day. It's pretty windy in Decorah, Iowa this morning...you can hear the wind blowing and see the nest swaying on top of those branches. We have seen what I like to call "the changing of the guard" a few times now. First thing in the morning Mom starts looking upward and checking all around. It seems that the male is overhead in the branches. She makes an Eagle noise and keeps looking. Another noise and soon her mate comes flying down and lands on the nest. Mom gets up and flys off while he is moving over the eggs...turning them and getting comfortable. He tucks the grassy nest lining in around him and settles in for a shorter period of time than Mom. The two never communicate while doing this. They know what their jobs are and each take care of their precious eggs. They turn the eggs to regulate the temperature and also to keep the babies from sticking to the shell. Yesterday, I watched as small birds were annoying the Mom. She kept looking around at them while they were innocently flying about the nest. I wonder if she would grab one of them if they came too close. Well, I have to get going...the eggs and Mom will be rocked by Mother Nature today. If you want to watch...here is the website again....
