A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

A Rainy Day

My son moved into a new house a few weeks ago and he has made friends with this squirrel already. He comes right up to the door to get a peanut. We went to see the house yesterday and thought it was just perfect for him. He's busy now with picking out paint colors and getting his things put away.We visited with he and Tyler and shared some pizza and then went on to Joe's son's house..who lives just blocks away. This will be very convenient for us to visit... both at the same time.

It's raining again today. We had 4 1/2 in. over the weekend. I think that's enough for now. What do you do an a rainy day? A long day stretched out in front of you...with nothing planned? My body tells me to just relax and curl up with a good book and my mind says, "This is a day for getting things done around the house...that you've been putting off, Balisha." Mind or body...what to do? I could make some meals for the freezer today and work at that end of the house... tidying up as I go.....Sounds like a plan to me. My freezer doesn't have any meals left..so today maybe I'll make a pasta sauce, chili, maybe some kind of soup. On days when I work outside..it's so nice to have something to just heat up and not have to fuss.Joe's on this "no wheat diet" and we have to do without bread. It makes things so difficult...you don't realize how many things go between two slices of bread. Simple meals of a sandwich and soup are no more....and what about my favorite BLT?

We are having a celebration of my son Tim's life up at the lake, over the 4th, and I am going to bring a picture board. I want to start doing that too. That will involve getting all the albums out and going through family pictures. You know how that goes..at least with me. I will sit there and look and look and one thing will lead to another. Before I know it, I could spend hours doing that. I have always been the picture taker in our family, so I have so many albums. Some of them are starting to fall apart and getting them sorted and in new albums is on my list for this coming winter. Someone said...scan them to your computer. Well, they haven's seen how many pictures I have...that would take me the rest of my life to do. I've heard of people putting them in photo boxes (like shoe boxes) Just throwing a question out there...how do some of you store your pictures? Mine, right now, are in albums except for the  box of my folks pictures and my in law's. I'm a pretty organized person and when I look through these, I always feel like they should be treated with respect and stored properly so they don't get damaged. They are moments in time that will never come again. I've always felt badly about my children's baby books. They were destroyed by dampness in our basement in our old house. They were all moldy and wet...so I had to toss them. Luckily I have photos of the kids as babies to remember those moments.

Looking out my window right now...it looks like night and it looks like it will be this way all day. Some would go back to bed, but I have always loved days like this...where I can just putter and see where life takes me.
Maybe I'll come back later to give you a report on what I actually did :)

An update...the food is all done and ready for the freezer. In between I made the photo board...It was the hardest thing ever.I could hardly get through it.  I'm glad it's done.

Ha ha ha ....I was cleaning out a cupboard in the cellar last month and found an old album...spent two hours taking pictures OF pictures with my iphone and sending them to sister, kids, etc

Old pictures are in albums until up to the last few years ( when I had film developed ) and those are in two big tins, as I never got around to putting them into albums by then....

Balisha,
you sure did accomplish a lot...oh, my. That photo board must have been a hard process and I commend you for getting right at it.
A few years back, I got all my photos together and began the process of dividing them into containers for each of my children...picking the ones I thought were most poignant to each. I then made albums. Many photos were discarded in this process but it was OK. I then made up some albums with the others, yet, I still have several plastic containers with photos. They are divided up into those that are important to family history, and my favorite ones of myself that I figured they could use on a photo board someday. I labeled everything. A long process but worthwhile.
Sending you healing thoughts....Marcia

Cute squirrel picture!

I have drawers and drawers full of pictures of my kids growing-up years, to which have been added a bunch of pictures of my mom that had been in my uncle's items. I thought it was so sweet of my cousin to send them to me. And then I have a suitcase full of old pictures from my mom's side of the family. I guess I could put them all into photo boxes, but then where would I store the photo boxes?
The last time I went through the pictures of my children, I ended up missing their little-child selves so bad and feeling all misty eyed and nostalgic, that I had to stop.
I actually prefer regular photographs instead of computer images, because who knows what our technology will involve in the future. It may at some point be difficult to retrieve them from the computers we have now. But I think an image on storage in the computer is some insurance against losing our photographs and never being able to replace them.

I have so many pictures that I took in the past that I did not date, I wish I would have. My mom used to not only date the photos that she took with her Brownie Box camera, but she wrote funny captions on them, too. I love running across her captioned pics.

I have album/scrapbooks back to 1983. I have two large family tree albums with the ancestor's pictures in them. I have the same photo's stored on my computer software called Family Tree Maker. Everytime I take a photo of a "now time" event, I print out the pictures for the albums AND save them on my computer. I hate shoe boxes filled with photos--and usually no names on the back so you don't know who the old people are! Yes, I know--I may be a tad OCD? I know the picture board was hard--brings it all back like it was yesterday.

You are being productive with the rainy days. I'll take some of the rain.
Most of our photos are in albums. I put mine in soon after developing them because one summer while I was in high school, my mom decided to "catch up" on her photos. Like 20 years worth of photos. After helping her do that, I never let them pile up at all. Ha.
I have some older albums which I've had to redo as the way they were attached came apart. These days, I use ones where you slip the photo in and have space to write or put cute stickers for the event. For our vacations, I've starting making photo books online with Walgreens or Shutterfly. They are easy to do and look so cool.
Enjoy all the yummy food!

So, I guess this is what retirement is like - cool! I love rainy days too. I am glad you got your photo board completed. It must have been very difficult for you. And visiting your other sons' homes must be fun. I love helping my daughter get settled in hers.
