A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

No, It Isn't Jane Fonda

I wrote about this a couple of years ago....I'm going to mention it again. There are quite a few Seniors reading this blog and when we find something that will help us live better lives...I think we should talk about it. Talking over the weekend to my daughter, I mentioned that I was exercising everyday...using a DVD. She kiddingly asked...Jane Fonda? I said, "No, old ladies on chairs." We were laughing so hard, but I was serious as a heart attack.I have a DVD with just that ....seniors on Chairs. I stopped using the DVD when Joe and I started going over to the school to use the gym. Then summer came and it was hot, so I quit going. I thought that I got enough exercise by gardening and housework. Joe hurt his leg at the gym and stopped going all together. I have thought about this DVD many times and only recently, when I strained my back, did I get it out to try again. I'm telling you...it helps. Don't be fooled by the cover.....with elderly people sitting on chairs. The first DVD is a stretching video. It is a wake up exercise program for older people. All of the exercises are done while you are sitting on a chair. This helps with balance and really gives you a workout . The 2nd video is one where we are introduced to light weights. You gradually work into this......and then we stand behind the chair for the rest of the DVD. I did this all week except Sunday and I can say that I felt better...more energy, worked out some aches, and just felt good about myself. I notice that my posture is better after doing these exercises. The gal that leads the program is so accommodating. She relates well to older people. I bought this in 2009. At that time I just felt that I needed something to limber up during the winter months. I ordered it on Amazon without even hearing anything about it. It turned out to be just perfect for me. Now, I think that I will use it year round. My gardening chores are getting a little hard and I'm having to cut down a bit, so I guess the next best thing is to grab my chair and sit in my nice house in front of the TV.... and join with the seniors on chairs. Maybe I'll limber up enough to help me garden more. No, it isn't Jane Fonda, but then I don't look too good in skimpy clothes. By the way, I saw Jane Fonda last night at the Golden Globes and she looks fabulous.

I'm a great believer that slow stretching is better than any gym-style workout! Pilates is my stretching exercise of choice...! Hope you continue to see the benefits of the DVD. Best Wishes, Jx

I know you prob think I fell off the face of the earth! Things have just been busy,
you know how life gets sometimes. But everything is fine, well almost everything.
I've been scrolling through your blog to try and catch up. I see the snow has been flying, your flowers are blooming beautifully,
kids seem to be fine and you made it through the holidays. The cinnamon rolls looked great. I won a cooking contest for my Pumpkin Apple sticky buns a few
months ago. I need to send you that one.
I enjoyed the post on Quilters, it brought back lots of memories.
Years ago I painted the Quilt that consumed the entire stage floor. The line through the Q was 12 feet long. It took me a week to paint it.
I couldn't walk for the next week after setting on the floor painting...LOL
I noticed you read the book The Help. I loved it
and finally rented the movie over the holidays. Of course the book
was better!
I hope to get back to my blog, I have lots going on, including my youngest is getting married in 5 months. I sure enjoyed reading all your poems again...

I always feel better when I manage to get out and get some exercise. Mine is just walking, but helpful anyway. The winter weather is killing me though, sixteen degrees when I left the house this morning. On the upside? I haven't had a cold yet...despite everyone else around me having one...endorphins must be working!

Eileen...I heard about her new exercise video, but unless someone tries it out...I think I'll stick with mine. Her's might be too strenuous. She did look so beautiful last night.

Hi Jan...I've never tried Pilates. I have found that I have started to stiffen up in my neck...so these stretching exercises are really going to help me.

Lynn...I have missed you so much.If you were here, I'd give you a hug. Joe asked the other day what happened to you. I told him that you must be very busy. Bless your heart to go back and read those posts. I've kept you on my blog list...why don't you post once a month, so we know you're OK?I loved hearing from you.

Cathy...I haven't had a cold either. Knock on wood. I'm just miserable when I get one...so I do everything possible to keep from getting one. Our weather has been similar.

Balisha, again - can relate to all you share. I still do about 15 minutes of yoga every morning.
Also walk whenever weather permits, ongoing gardening, home and everything else we take care of. I can no longer spread truck loads of mulch or hardly handly the big bags. Have someone once a month cut grass and trim and I cut in between - will see what this summer brings :)
I could go to our local Y which is covered through my insurance but the 15 minute drive I would rather do something here at home.
Thank you for sharing...

I think it is great that they make such DVD's these days.

Hi Ernestine and Barbara,,
I took a chance when I bought the video without hearing anything about it. So many times, I bring a book home from the library and don't like it. I don't think you can try out a DVD. This one turned out to be perfect.
I get a workout in my gardening, but this year I felt that I needed something to keep me going during the winter and this fits the bill.
