The Grass Isn't Always Greener....

Saturday morning...7:30 I'm on the road to find a Farmer's Market. We have a small one (which is pretty nice) here in our town. I went through a neighboring town a few days ago and saw a sign advertising a market. You know...the grass is always greener? So I decided to try another town's market. I arrived a bit too early. It started at 8:30...I had a half hour to kill, so I walked around the town and took some pictures. We had seen these beautiful flowers all over town when we were last here. They are on every corner. The fire station is beautifully planted. The hanging planters are just dripping with flowers.
I looked at them all and saw that they were flourishing in the heat of the summer. Surely there were some good gardeners here...their farmer's market would probably be wonderful.

Just look at the size of the plants. Coleus...huge and growing in the sun. Petunias trailing down the sides of the concrete planters. In the center of each pot is a beautiful hibiscus. They are huge too.

I have been in a garden club and we took care of concrete pots like these. They are really a challenge to keep looking nice. They need so much water and constant deadheading. People toss pop cans and cigarettes into them.

I went back to my car to wait for the sale to begin. No one there at 8:45. About 9 am a woman parked in the parking place next to mine. She started emptying her trunk. First tables and then a tent and a chair. She had a few baskets of veggies and she put them on the table. I went over and asked her where everyone was. She said that there were never many people there...maybe a lady with raspberries would be coming. I looked at her things and picked out a few tomatoes and some Yukon gold potatoes. The woman came with raspberries and I asked if she had corn. She opened a bag and there were tiny, dried up, brown on the ends....corn cobs. I told her that I wasn't interested and went on my way.

I found corn and a watermelon on my way home. I was too late for the sale in my own town. It just goes to show you....the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I had missed a sale, but I found beautiful things to photograph.

That sure is a pretty town and the flowers are beautiful. We have a great farmer's market here most of the time but it has been so hot things don't look as good as usual.

Well at least you got to see some gorgeous planter flowers on your trip. I only wish my planters looked so full and pretty. Some people have the touch on planting choices.Mine are looking so sad lately.
