A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Bringing in the Plants...and a poem

I've been getting my shelves ready in the basement for winter. Winter will be upon us before you know it. I have a four shelf unit with lights where I put my houseplants. The cactus will go on one shelf. They have spent the summer on the front porch and I can see growth on them. My Christmas cactus have been next to the foundation of the house under the river birch. They look limp...I wonder if they will stiffen up. Does anyone know? Have any of yours done this? My amaryllis has grown. I plan to leave it in the same pot. I have to find the directions for care that I used last year. It worked and I had blooms and the plant had a new stalk. I have some amaryllis bulbs coming in October from American Meadows. They had them at 1/2 price...so I ordered them. Tomorrow I will start repotting and putting plants in the window. My wandering Jew has wandered. I planted a new pot of it and now I have two wandering down there :) It is warm down there, because Joe had a heating guy come out and put new ducts in the ceiling. I used to sit with my little fireplace turned on...pulled up next to my feet...to keep warm while I painted. Now it is warm and the plants don't like it so much. Oh, well..it's them or me. This year due to my not being able to drive :( I will be doing more painting. You can picture me in my warm cozy room with my garden behind me painting up a storm. Now I need wall space to hang things...

Balisha Does the Job

She went down to the basement.. things were in a disarray..
Cobwebs were hanging over.. the place that she once played.
The shelves were oh so empty and looking so forlorn..
She had to do something..but what she was so torn.
She got her trusty vacuum out and then began to clean..
The shelves and tables now took on a clean and shiny sheen.
The dust was flying everywhere..a dust cap on her head..
The plants were just there waiting, it truly can be said.
The Jew was just a wandering across the table's edge..
The cacti were together in a prickly little hedge.
The amaryllis needed rest.. she was so sleepy now..
The room was taking shape Balisha cleaned it all somehow.
She put the plants in order in their designated spots..
She took the terra cotta and put it with some pots.
And when the job was finished and she took off her dusty cap..
She laid the feather duster down and on her chair she sat.
It looked so all inviting this little room so dear..
The plants exclaimed together in one resounding cheer.
Hooray for Balisha and her trusty little mop..
She cleaned the room for us today and didn't even stop.

Balisha, my Wandering Jew had wandered too. I had to cut it back because of lack of space. My Christmas Cactus has buds. They will probably all drop off now. What a great buy on Amaryllis. I may have to check them out. Never grew any so can not help with the bringing them in.

Hi Balisha, I don't know about your Christmas cactus. They don't need much water and they should have gotten plenty outside this fall.

Wish I had a good place to overwinter plants. I'm going to try to keep a few in the basement by forcing them to go dormant.

It is hard to believe that it is time to begin preparing for winter. It kind of makes me sad, but that is the cycle of life. My basement could certainly use a Balisha-style cleaning. It needs to be done. But, whew, that sounds like lots of work. Thanks for setting a good example for the rest of us. I will try to work up the courage to follow it. Blessings to you.

It isn't near time for me to start putting the plants in our little greenhouse. That little thing was packed to the roof with plants last year. It gets so dry in the house our plants don't like it much. The outdoor plants love the greenhouse.

We are supposed to get a cool front soon, but it was something like 87 degrees F here yesterday.
Our crepe myrtles are still blooming and the roses are having a second floweing.

Hope you have a happy day.

Like the cartoon, your new header and the poem. I dread having to empty pots and store them and drag all the stuff I have in the yard into the shed. I made 3 loaves of pumpkin bread today and already had two slices. I love it with coffee.

You are a busy little bee! Some times it is dry up next to the house even if there has been rain. Your Christmas cactus might need water. It's all guesswork for me with mine; I never know if I'm giving it too little, or, too much and it is drooping because I have rotted its roots. If it got too much rain, that could have happened. Tasha Tudor used to paint before her fireplace in a little space she called her chipmunk nest.

Hi everybody,
I think that the Christmas cactus was dry. It is perking up with some water.
Now this was just a poem about what I wanted to do. I got a lot of it done and it looks presentable, but there is lots more to do down there.
Amber star..We have the heat on already. The down comforter is on the bed.
