A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

A Morning In August

This is what I saw this morning in my yard. I was out very early...cutting flower stems off the hostas, digging grass out of the mulch, deadheading, and finally starting to move some things around. The bench was a welcome spot for me today. What I did was hard work and I was sitting quite a bit toward the end. Actually, I was so tired, it was tiring coming up to the house. I was dragging the lawn cart full of things and then had to water with two watering cans.I think we need another sitting area half way up to the house. I do find that being tired from doing a hard days work is the best kind of tired. When I am finished and look out our windows...I feel so full of joy I can hardly wait to go out and do it all again.
The flowers are so pretty right now. I love the phlox and susans. I transplanted some lady's mantle and put in some mystery lilies. I moved some purple sage too. I hope these things transplant well at this time of the year. They should, with watering.

We didn't have a veggie garden, so to speak, until this year. There are tomatoes planted in amongst the flowers and in a couple of bare spots. They are doing beautifully...even the topsy turvy plant. The reason for moving the plants, as I did this morning, is that Joe wants to put a trellis against the bottom of the deck next year. It will be for cucumbers. I am giving up a part of the flower garden there...to make room for this addition. He had a beautiful garden a few years ago...before we were married, but he planted grass seed, thinking he wouldn't want to grow veggies anymore. We have found out that just this little bit of veggie gardening, is so much fun for the two of us. It gives us yet another interest and what a treat to be able to pick your own food. We both take a lot of pride in our yard and this is another hobby in our old age.

The last thing that I did was to fill the birdbaths. I have a tiny one and the little sparrows were hopping around and splashing each other....so cute. Up at the house now...tired, thirsty, dirty, you should see my fingernails (I wore gloves, but just had to take them off once in a while) I came in and to my surprise, Joe was fixing a late breakfast for us. Microwave scrambled eggs, ham roll ups, V8 juice, wheat toast, he had peanut butter...I had salsa...It tastes so good, when you don't have to fix it or clean up. Well, I did what I love to do this morning. What a feeling of satisfaction that the job is done...for now anyway.

It is always a good tired when you have been out working in the garden.
Your bed at the bench is so pretty and it looks like your sedums are about ready to bloom. Mine are very wimpy beside of yours ;-)

Your yard is pure heaven! Just lovely! I am so anxious to get well and get out there. I feel good but the energy runs out in minutes sometimes...
Your photo's of your home are the kind I always want to share... :)

Aren't we lucky to be the proud owner of gardens :-) Yours looks great right now, I loved my visit.

All your flowers and your garden is just beautiful. I always think you have the prettiest headers of all my blogging friends. I have promised myself to put out some garden stuff next year. I have some cherry tomatoes but that is it this year. I now have enough sun in the backyard for such things since I cut those trees and have really enjoyed planting new stuff that needs sun this year. I feel like I work at Lowes. I am always there looking for stuff marked down!

Your garden is beautiful. I wish I had the giant stand of happy coneflowers that you grow...just wonderful! I miss the good tired that comes from workking in the garden...the mosquitoes keep me out unless I want to spray myself down with OFF! Do you get to sit on that lovely bench very often? gail

What a lovely post, Balisha. It was just like being there with you, including needing to sit on the bench and rest. Growing old with gardening is something I plan to do, no matter what, some form of gardening will be done. How wonderful that your husband can share in this hobby with you. So glad he is interested in growing food again, so satisfying and good for the soul. :-)

Thankyou all for reading and leaving your wonderful comments. Gardening is something that we all have in common. All ages...doing different things at our own pace. I learn from the younger gardeners and I hope that some of my gardening experience helps someone too. Thanks again,
Balisha

Your yard is beautiful! I am so envious! Mine has been left to do it's own thing this year, bigger plans for next year. Love the phlox, it is on my list for next year.

Hi Balisha,
Your header or scroll or masthead is just stunning. I really enjoyed reading the quote by Thomas Jefferson. I want to learn more about him.

I feel so happy reading about your garden. There is so much love infused into this post. It made me think of Voltaire's answer to all the world's problems: One must take care of (cultivate) one's own garden.

We gardeners are always looking to next year. It's the best part of gardening...making plans, reading seed catalogs etc. That's what our winter rest is for.
Thanks for reading Caroline,
I am a T. Jefferson fan. He had a very creative mind and his inventions and thoughts for gardening are still relevant today.
