I try to get my Christmas shopping done early, so I don't have to fight the crowds at the stores. Our Church has a couple of giving trees, where tags hang. These tags give a nursing home resident's name and a list of what they would like from Santa. Our Church members support this nursing home and many of us take a tag or two and buy the residents a gift. A couple of years ago, I picked a tag with a woman's name...and instead of going over and just dropping the gift off...I spent the morning with her. She had Alzheimer's disease and reminded me of my Mom. She was thrilled with the shiny gift bag and the bow...she didn't pay much attention to the gift. I had taken cookies along and we shared them with the residents at her table. Well, this year I took a man and a womans's name. The giving trees were not up very early...and the stores would be a crush to shop in. There is a deadline of this weekend to get the gifts to Church. I thought and thought about how I would be able to make this enjoyable for me too. I had an idea. I got the Kmart website up on the computer and started with my selections. The man wanted pajamas...cotton. I looked in the men's dept. and found a very nice pair in a dark blue plaid...first item in my basket. Next he wanted cologne...a whole range of colognes came up and I made my selection...2nd item in my basket...then some sugar free candy. I picked out what I thought he would like. There, the man was done. The woman wanted a sweat shirt...so I went to the ladies dept and selected a rose colored one (I had an idea for this plain sweatshirt) into the basket it went, next a bottle of cologne, (I remembered one that my Mom used to wear) and selected it. Next a body lotion...this was easy...so many to choose from. Now, my basket was full and ready to check out. I had to make sure that all of the items were available at my local Kmart...they were, with a notation that they could be picked up today .. all my purchases. I gave my information and credit card # and the job was done. I felt so good, I wasn't tired from my shopping, I had selected nice things, and best of all...I was going to make a couple of people happy. Later in the day, I got a call from Sue at Kmart. She asked if she could exchange the chocolates for chocolate creams. I told her that I thought her selection would be even better than mine. She said Merry Christmas and we hung up. The next day, I drove over to Kmart and went to the window to pick up my order. Sue was there and had my package all ready for me. The service is relatively new at Kmart...it's called Mygofer. A wonderful service for we older people. They get your order and package it and in some stores they will bring it out to the car for you. I can't say enough about this store and how I appreciated the help.
Yesterday, I painted some flowers around the neck of the sweatshirt to make it nicer. I hope she likes it.
